Validation
Dorman’s Quality Team evaluates the original, redesigned Window Regulators and part components using several tests to ensure proper fit, form and function. Testing and Validation occurs in our state-of-the-art testing facility, located at our Colmar, Pennsylvania Headquarters.

3-Dimensional Coordinate Measuring
Dorman performs 3-Dimensional Coordinate Measuring on both the original Window Regulator and its corresponding door.
This extra step ensures that Dorman Window Regulators are guaranteed to fit. Actively measuring doors helps minimize the risk of damage to the replacement Regulator by eliminating the need to alter the product during installation. No bending, twisting or adjusting Dorman’s Regulator is required to achieve a perfect fit right out of the box.
Dorman has the largest sample door inventory in North America. If a particular make, model and year exhibits a pattern of installation problems, Dorman has the
in-house expertise needed to retest the fitment and quickly respond to changes in the market.
To account for extreme conditions, Tensile Testing is used to evaluate individual elements of the part assembly. This test measures the strength of the cable and the amount of force needed to unsecure the cable from its mounting or for the cable to fray.

Material Hardness Testing is used to verify performance of the materials in the original and redesigned parts. Extensive testing verifies that the correct material is being used for the application. If a material tests poorly, the Dorman Engineering team continues testing to determine if the failure is design or material related and makes the adjustments necessary to resolve the problem and provide a best in class product.
Motor Dyno Testing certifies motor performance of original Window Regulator and Dorman’s redesigned Window Regulator. The test measures the horsepower rating of Window Motors, verifying that the original part meets or exceeds the declared horsepower rating and the Dorman part meets or exceeds our standards for performance.
Cycle Testing validates the durability and performance of every Dorman Regulator and Motor over extended cycles. Each Regulator is installed in its corresponding door and tested for 10,000 cycles which is equivalent to three to four years of normal use.
Finally, each and every Dorman Window Regulator is tested on a vehicle to ensure a trouble-free installation, excellent performance and operational durability. This real-life testing assists the Dorman team in creating step-by-step installation instructions, and gives insight into future product enhancements. On vehicle testing also allows our team to inspect for other design flaws that can cause Regulator failure or excess stress on the Regulator leading to eventual failure.
